In Fallout 76, the abandoned ammo factory you may have heard about is actually a workshop called the Converted Munitions Factory. It is located in the far northern part of the Savage Divide. This workshop is free for any player who wants to claim it and obtain a significant amount of ammunition. However, be prepared to defend it from other players who may try to take it.

Finding the Factory

The Converted Munitions Factory is in the northern Savage Divide region. Upon arrival, you'll encounter a group of Super Mutants that you must defeat to claim the workshop. Once the area is clear, locate the workshop station to claim the area as your own. Claiming the workshop typically costs between 25 to 50 caps. After claiming it, you'll receive a side mission to power up the Ammunition Factory.

How to get ammo from the Munitions Factory

The Ammunition Factory resembles a normal ore extractor and requires 20 power to activate. Once powered, the machine will start producing 10mm ammo. You can change the ammo type by using the terminal in front of the machine, but you cannot produce Alien Blaster Rounds. Production speed varies depending on the chosen ammo type, with higher-grade ammunition taking longer to produce.

Is it Worth it?

Whether the Ammo Factory is worth the effort depends on your needs. The ammo factory is most useful when producing certain types of ammunition, such as 5mm ammo. Daily Ops and Expeditions are also effective ways to farm ammo because you get contextual ammo by killing enemies with the weapon you need. If you have access to other resources, such as the Ammo Converter, it can be useful after certain events. Alternatively, you can craft ammo using metal ores, with Lucky Mole Mine being a good source for lead ore if you use an Excavator Power Armor.
